OUR MISSION

The mission of the Children’s Initiative is to help San Diego County’s low-income children, youth and families thrive and prosper.  For more than 20 years, the Children’s Initiative has served as an advocate and custodian for effective policies, programs, and services that support the education, health, safety and well-being of children and families in San Diego County.
OUR CORE VALUES
Health

All children deserve the chance to be born healthy, to be free from hunger and disease, and to receive regular medical care.

 
Education

All children deserve an education that prepares them to meet the future and inspires them to reach their full potential.

 
Safety

All children deserve to grow up free from abuse, free from violence, and free from the devastation of drugs and alcohol.

 
Economic Security

All children deserve to grow up in economically stable families and to have hope for a secure future.

 
Collaboration

More can be accomplished by organizations working collaboratively toward common agendas, with the meaningful inclusion of youth, families and communities, than by any one organization working independently.

  1. Identifies key issues effecting the health, safety and education of children and youth in San Diego County

  2. Researches national best practices and proven solutions to for identified issue

  3. Identifies partners and stakeholders who are willing to work together on solving the issue

  4. Convenes inter-agency working teams

  5. Coordinates the implementation of the solutions, including identifying appropriate funding, writing supporting legislation, designing service or program and advocating for both local policy changes

  6. Collects relevant data to evaluate outcomes for success
