A COMPREHENSIVE STRATEGY
We work to continually improve our juvenile justice system by concentrating our resources and efforts in prevention and early intervention while providing therapeutic services to those most in need. Our collaborative approach known as the “Comprehensive Strategy" brings together diverse disciplines to coordinate and enhance efforts that address juvenile delinquency and promote positive development of youth. Our efforts are focused on implementing best practice policy, programs and principles in our system and continually evaluating service effectiveness. This work is accomplished by The San Diego Juvenile Justice Comprehensive Strategy Task Force and the Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council, both listed below.
A MULTI-AGENCY JUSTICE PLAN
The "Comprehensive Multi-Agency Juvenile Justice Plan," developed in conjunction with the Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council and the Juvenile Justice Comprehensive Strategy Task Force is our blueprint for implementing effective policies, program and practices. The Plan was approved by the San Diego County Board of Supervisors and has resulted in an annual award from the State Board of Corrections of more than $10 million to sustain programs, identify gaps in services, and create best practice services for at-risk youth. These services address a variety of issues, including drug and alcohol abuse, gang involvement and truancy.
The Children's Initiative staff has presented the San Diego County Comprehensive Strategy model across the country. The presentations have included strategies for cross-government collaboration, blended funding, and how to build public and private partnerships.
